Blue Ridge School teachers attended the International Boys Schools Coalition June 25-28. This year’s annual conference was hosted by The Boys’ Latin School of Maryland and focused on creativity, discovery and engagement.
Associate Headmaster Dr. Kevin Miller (left) and Academic Dean Peter Bonds co-presented “Do You Really Need That? Appropriate Technology to Engage Boys in Learning” as part of the conference’s Engagement track. Their presentation focused on the pros and cons of relying on technology for lecture-based classes. Director of IT Wayne Peterson (left) and Technology teacher Mike Burris co-presented “If They Get to Build It, They Will Come: Designing a Makerspace and Implementing an Effective Technology Program” for the conference’s Creativity track. Their presentation looked at how best to integrate technology into today’s classrooms, and ways to use technology while implementing project-based learning.
BRS teachers Jon Baker, Marcia Kozloski, Matt Bennett, Brandon Deane, Janice Brasted and Chuck Pace attended the conference.
In 2016, Science teacher Paul Fehlner presented his year-long research findings on “The Development of Empathy in High School Boys” at the IBSC annual conference in Vancouver. Assistant Headmaster Vinton Bruton presented his year-long research on “Tolkien, Grit, and Moral Courage” at the 2014 IBSC annual conference in Nashville.
