The Outdoor Education Program hosted field trips on Blue Ridge School’s campus on October 18 and 25 for a group of homeschooled children from the Home Educating Mentors (HEMS) in Charlottesville.
Students in the Environmental Studies, Outdoor Leadership and Outdoor Living Skills classes helped with the various activities for the children, including leading games on the interpretive trails, teaching how to build a debris shelter, and making walking sticks. Our students also taught the children about Leave No Trace and shared examples.
They also prepared kiddie trail mix for snacks, including homemade fruit leather.
Following lunch hosted by Blue Ridge, the children spent the afternoon learning how to scale the climbing tower.
