We are shocked and disheartened at the news from Charlottesville, a peaceful university town twenty miles from our campus.

Our prayers go out to the family and friends of those individuals hurt in this unusual event for the Commonwealth of Virginia.

We are heartened by the response from our local, state and federal law enforcement officers who are now returning the city to its typically quiet, thoughtful, and positive position as one of America’s leading university communities.

Meanwhile, we want to assure you that the Blue Ridge School campus is far removed from the disturbances that occurred this weekend. From our home in the shadow of the Blue Ridge Mountains, we remain focused on serving the wonderfully diverse student body we have carefully constructed, who will hail from more than 18 U.S. states and 20 countries when classes resume on September 7.

All is well on campus today. Traditional summer activities continue unchanged; among them, the University of Virginia’s Cavalier Marching Band is here for their pre-season camp, enjoying a peaceful place to practice music and drills for their upcoming season.
