The school year has come to an end and there is no better time to reflect and answer the questions:
“Did my son get the education he needs?” “Is there a better place for him to learn?” “What options are available to us?”
Join us this summer for a series that teaches you how to evaluate the effectiveness of your current school, breaks down the various learning environments from public schools, private day schools, hybrid, coed, and full boarding, and explains how the enrollment process works at boarding schools and why it’s important to at least apply early in order to secure your spot.
June 16th – How To Evaluate Your Current School: Review criteria to help you better analyze your son’s current school to identify if he is getting the proper education he deserves. Special Guest: Cathy Byerly – Educational Consultant, Independent School Options
June 23rd – Choosing Boarding School: Get a full breakdown of the differences between day, boarding, and hybrid schools. You will hear from parents who experienced all three and then you can find out why they chose an all-boy, all-boarding environment for their son. Special Guest: Alina Ackenbom, parent of Tyler Ackenbom 23′
July 7th – Applying For Success: Get a behind-the-scenes look at the admissions process and what it takes to set your child up for success in a boarding school. Special Guest: D. Franklin Daniels Jr., Associate Headmaster for External Affairs and parent of current Blue Ridge boy.
July 21st – Preparing For School: Discover the best ways to prepare your son for the upcoming school year to position them for future college success. There are steps you can take now that will ensure an easier deliberation process and help guide your son to finding his ideal-fit university. Special Guest: Amber Wilkins, Dean of Faculty & College Counseling.

Meet Jamie Miller
Proud graduate of the Class of 1994, Jamie has worked in both the Admissions and Advancement Offices over the past 15 years. He has coached multiple sports at Blue Ridge, lived on campus for 6 years and is an active member of our Alumni Association. His wife of over 20 years is also in education. The Miller’s have two teenage daughters and two Labrador Retrievers.
Meet ANGELA JACKSON-MAPETLA
Angela Jackson-Mapetla is director of admissions and parent relations at Blue Ridge School. She comes to BRS from St. Andrew’s School in Kenya and Heritage International School in Uganda. Previously she was a Christian missionary with Doors Ministries in Uganda and associate director of residential and commuter programs and academic advisor at Longwood University. When not working, she enjoys fashion and interior design and participating in Toastmasters International.
