About Us

Why Blue Ridge School?

A place to be challenged, supported and transformed.

Preparing Boys for Lifelong Success

We’ve made Blue Ridge School an all-boys, all-boarding school for a specific reason—it’s how boys learn best.

An all-boys environment allows us to tailor our curriculum to approaches that distinctly resonate with young men, while our character-based culture, challenging co-curricular programs, and close-knit community ensure that every boy is supported, inspired, and pushed to reach his full potential.

Boy-Focused Learning

Individualized, Personal, and Attentive

These are the hallmarks of the learning model at Blue Ridge School. With an average of 11 students per class, our curriculum stresses relational learning. Relational learning means that boys learn best from people who are invested in them—who can give them the time and attention needed to make lessons click. And when boys relate to the teacher, they can better relate to the learning. With these connections and just 40 students per teacher overall, our faculty also has the time to truly tailor their lesson plans to each individual. Additional individualized academic support is available from the Fishburne Learning Center

Blue Ridge School also stresses project-based learning. This means that lessons are connected to creative hands-on, minds-on projects they can share, such as videos, performances, a podcast, or a piece of art. Rather than just memorizing facts, they build an experience around their learning, enhancing comprehension and memorability. While these approaches may take more effort, they are critical to ensuring our school is truly built for how boys learn best.

Character-Based Culture

Between grades nine and twelve, boys develop the traits they will take will take with them into manhood.

So Blue Ridge School builds our curriculum, programs, and culture around cultivating men of character.  We nurture their values and integrity. We teach—and demonstrate—awareness of personal responsibility and the impact we have on others. And, we encourage teamwork, volunteerism, and a sense of community. We believe character is reflected in how you act when nobody is watching, so we plant the seeds of that in the form of teachable moments with each passing day.

Outside the Classroom

A Comprehensive Co-Curricular Program

How our boys spend their time outside of academic hours is a vital part of the learning and growth at Blue Ridge School. The co-curriculum encompasses all that we do beyond the classroom and study hall, including Character Education, Residence Life, Student leadership, Athletics, the Outdoor Program, Visual and Performing Arts, Advising and the Chapel Program. All of our afternoon programs meet the following criteria:

  • The activity must be challenging
  • The activity must offer opportunities for success and failure
  • The activity must contribute to a healthy lifestyle.

The Blue Ridge School Community

The Blue Ridge School Community is designed be a home-away-from-home for boys. Being all boarding, boys create close bonds with their “brothers” in the residence hall. They build friendships through our broad selection of social activities, clubs, and sports. Also, because most of our faculty live on campus with their families, advisors and favorite teachers are available around the clock. We take pride in the fact that the supportive, engaging community we’ve built for boys here at Blue Ridge School results in friendships, bonds, and mentorships that last a lifetime.

Our Campus

Everything about our 750-acre campus in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains is built for boys.

Miles of trails to explore, fields and courts for more than 20 competitive sports teams, and a lake for fishing and kayaking. Boys take part in a renowned outdoor education program that builds leadership and a sense of stewardship for the environment—all within vast, mountain campus in beautiful St. George, Virginia.
