Fishburne Learning Center

Tailoring Teaching to Each Student’s Learning Profile

The Fishburne Learning Center distinguishes Blue Ridge School from other boys’ boarding schools by implementing individualized learning strategies and programs.

Approximately 40% of students leverage FLC services. The FLC serves a neurodiverse group of students, including boys with a diagnosis of ADHD, ASD, and SLDs such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia. Additionally, any student who might benefit from learning center services is welcome to enroll in FLC classes.

A Tailored Strategy

Targeting Executive Functioning and Academic Skills

The FLC offers two tiers of support, targeting executive functioning and academic skills. FLC Tier 1 courses provide services in a setting of 3 students or less. FLC Tier 2 courses are in a setting of five students or less and promote increased independence. A tailored strategy letter, outlining each student’s testing accommodations and instructional strategies, is created and shared with their content teachers to ensure the student is set up for success.

  • Executive functioning support (organization, time management, etc)
  • Building independent work habits,  study skills, & self-advocacy skills
  • Targeted support with major projects & writing assignments
  • General academic support across all subject areas
  • Weekly data-driven goal setting and progress monitoring
