A Boy’s Home Away from Home
Residential Life is at the center of the Blue Ridge experience.
The dorm is where boys build camaraderie and friendships while learning structure, independence, and confidence. Through experiences ranging from time management and conflict resolution to understanding boundaries and personal space, boys develop essential life skills and a strong sense of self that prepares them for college and adulthood.
Dormitories
Live, Grow and Belong
At Blue Ridge School, each boy lives on a hall with peers in his age group and a carefully selected roommate chosen by our Residential Life team for a strong match. Every hall is guided by a dedicated Hall Paren – faculty members who live in the dorms and act in loco parentis to ensure a safe, healthy, and engaging residential experience. Supporting them are 1-3 student leaders who help foster community, assist with daily life, and model leadership for their peers.
Walsh Hall houses underclassmen in grades 9–11 and serves as home to the Residential Life offices, including the Director of Residential Life. Its lobby is a central hub on campus—a lively gathering place where students connect, relax, and build community.
Boogher Dorm is home to senior boys and features slightly larger suite-style rooms—two rooms sharing a bathroom for four students. Here, seniors enjoy greater independence, helping them prepare for life in college.
At Blue Ridge School, boys have plenty of communal spaces to relax, connect, and recharge. From our Student Center with ping pong, cozy hangout spots, movies, and snacks, to 750 acres of mountain campus to explore, there’s always a place to unwind, relax, and have fun.
Dining
Gathering Around the Table
The dining hall is a social hub where boys catch up with their teammates, advisors, teachers, and friends. And Blue Ridge School makes it very appealing with custom chef-crafted and prepared menus based on locally sourced, seasonal ingredients. Some of the boy’s favorites include make-your-own stir frys, Sunday omelets, and the ice cream sundae bar. Cultural holidays, such as Lunar New Year, are observed with special meals and our annual Thanksgiving Holiday Dinner draws advisors and their families together with the boys for family-style feast.
Responsibilities
Opportunities for Growth
As they mature in this environment, BRS boys are given additional responsibilities, strengthening their leadership skills. Along the way they are guided by Hall Parents and student Proctors and Prefects who provide a mature presence and serve as role models. The result is a familial community that helps the boys feel closer to home.
Students participate in regular hall meetings where they cover a dedicated Residence Life curriculum on social-emotional development, such as creating a good first impression and living under social contract, and life skills like personal finance and home repair.

Blue Ridge School has checked every box a parent could desire. BRS has a diversity in both the teaching staff and in the student body. It has a remarkably low student to teacher ratio, which is realized in most classes and translates into outstanding academic experiences. It has the philosophy and resources to effectively engage and direct boys.”
BRS Parent
Blue Ridge School has completely changed my life. It is by far one of the best schools in Virginia and nationwide. Our culture and diversity is unmatched to that of any other boarding school in the country. It is truly a home to me and all of my classmates, we are truly one big family. That is why we here at Blue Ridge school call ourselves Baron Brothers.”
BRS Sophomore
Both of my sons attended the Blue Ridge School. We sent them two boys and they sent us back men. They graduated from great universities, are married and have settled into great careers. We have many fond memories and cannot recommend the school highly enough.”

I attended Blue Ridge in 1985, 1986 and graduated in 1987. I was a summer school counselor in 1988. It’s like home to me and the best thing that happened to me at that time. It made me who I am today and I made life long friends. The school is exceptional and anyone who is able to attend is truly blessed.”
BRS Alumni

The sense of brotherhood here is incredible, whether through late-night talks, shared challenges, or intense games of football and golf. The thrill of competition, the hard work at practice, and the celebrations after victories have all been unforgettable. Sports taught me teamwork, resilience, and discipline, helping me grow both on and off the field.”
