Fourth Consecutive Championship for Baron Basketball

2022 Basketball Championship Team

The Blue Ridge School varsity basketball team won its fourth consecutive VISAA Division II state championship on March 5, 2022. The Barons defeated Highland School of Warrenton 67-50 after a second half rally. BRS ended the season record of 30-5, including going 11-0 in the Virginia Indepdent Conference.

Two members of the squad, Houston Emory of Devon, Pennsylvania, and Maliq Brown of Reva, Virginia, are four-year students at Blue Ridge School and have been on a championship team each season.

Head Coach Cade Lemcke told The Daily Progress, “Winning four straight championships is not normal. We have tried to express to the guys you can’t take these opportunities for granted. The effort and energy, and some luck, that goes into a run like this is remarkable and I’m so proud of my staff and these players for staying focused on the end goal through all the ups and downs.”

“This was a hard game for me,” Lemcke told ScrimmagePlay. “I was starting to feel emotional toward the end of that fourth quarter because you think back to what these guys have done. None of them were stars when they first got here, they all waited their turn, continued to get better, continued to develop.”
